This is our annual conference which gives you a chance to meet other coasties from around the country, including research scientists, local experts and practitioners, iwi representatives, local businesses, coast care volunteers, students and individuals from all around the country with a passion for our coastal environment.

With rising sea levels, and climate change causing more severe weather events, it is more important than ever to make our coastlines and properties resilient to these conditions.

Opening of the conference, keynote speakers on issues of national and regional significance, Regional Roundup by coast care representatives from around the country, and a short field trip.

Jim Dahm and David Bergin will present CRTNZ project updates. Then local coast experts will update us about what is happening in the Wellington region.

The afternoon bus will take us to sites south, including Waiwhetu, Eastbourne and the Lake Block dotterels.

A delicious buffet dinner awaits us at the special location of Pencarrow Lodge.

There will be a guest speaker and the trust will announce the winners of the 2018 coastal restoration awards.

A day of field-trips to the stunning places of Baring Head/Ōrua-pouanui, Turakirae Heads and other coastal sites.

We will aim to wrap up the main conference around mid-afternoon to accommodate those who need to travel.

We depart at 6pm on the Friday and spend Saturday and most of Sunday at Wairarapa sites such as Lake Palliser, Lake Ferry, Onoke Spit, Ocean Beach, Riversdale and Castlepoint.

This is a self-drive event at own cost, but we will coordinate car-pooling for those who travel to Petone by public transport and to limit our footprints.

Accommodation locations will be announced so you will be able to book it for yourselves.

We aim to finish at Castlepoint at 3pm on the Sunday.
